SPSI New Works: Love and Exclusion with Bob Bergman

It is a paradox of human nature that a force which strongly unites us also separates us into groups which regard each other as different, sometimes to the point of non-humanity, and leads to war and many other disasters.

Bob Bergman, MD, was admitted to the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis in 1964. The war in Vietnam made it necessary for him to enlist in the United States Public Health Service, for which he served in the Indian Health Service for 10 years, followed by 7 years in community psychiatry and as Residency Director in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of New Mexico. His highly cross cultural childhood and many years of working with Native Americans has focused his attention and issues of culture and cultural difference.

Babak Roshanaei-Moghaddam, MD, discussant, is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, the founder of Tehran Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, on the Faculty at SPSI, Adjunct Faculty at the University of Washington, and is in private practice in Seattle. He also serves on the advisory board of the Consultation Liaison Network (CLN) an offshoot of the Holmes Commission.
