Learning Objectives
Students will:
- learn and practice addressing sexual issues with patients. This includes taking a complete sexual history and being able to refer to that history in ongoing case formulation.
- learn various ways of understanding sexuality from non-heteronormative perspectives, including queer theory and alternative sexual practices.
- learn to listen for patient therapist sexual messages and enactments in the therapy; use their own capacity and their sexual reactions to explore patient material; and develop a greater appreciation for their own humanity.
