We will spend the next 2 classes delving into the theories of mentalization and affect regulation, with a careful reading of the overview article by Fonagy et al. I hope you will find these concepts and perspective interesting and complementary to other analytic theories of the mind you have already studied. This article includes research studies in infancy and early childhood to discuss both normal development from a developmental psychology and attachment perspective, as well as explores consequences when development is disrupted. (using Borderline Personality as a case example).
