November 1, 2024 — Pleasure/The Psychosexual
[31 pages]
For our final class, we will explore another distinguishing factor in psychoanalysis: the concept of the psychosexual. As analysts, we consider our patients’ sexualities as integral parts of their development and identities, and work with pleasure as well as pain. Michael Shulman’s paper turns our attention to the analyst’s experiences of the erotic, gratification, anxiety, and guilt.
We will also reflect on the course together, taking a look at what you’ve learned that’s been helpful to you in your practice.
