The Psychoanalytic Referral Service

[July 15, 2021] Due to overwhelming demand and low availability on our roster, we are unfortunately not taking new referral requests at this time. We will be polling our membership regularly to inquire about new openings, and will hopefully be able to resume the service soon.

If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact the Crisis Connections crisis line at 1-866-427-4747 or visit them online.

The Psychoanalytic Referral Service (PRS) offers referrals for interested individuals seeking psychoanalysis.

(What is psychoanalysis? To learn more, click here.)

PRS has been providing this service to adults, adolescents and children for 40 years. The professionals to whom we refer are trained and licensed mental health professionals from all of the major mental health disciplines (psychiatry, psychology, social work, counseling, and nursing) who have completed, or are pursuing, advanced specialized training in psychoanalysis at SPSI.

Persons seeking treatment through the referral service will be evaluated over the telephone by a PRS committee member who will take into consideration the caller’s presenting problems, financial circumstances, and any preferences (i.e., clinician’s gender or practice location) in order to make an appropriate referral.¬† This referral service does not monitor or otherwise participate in the treatment of patients.

Those interested in being referred may email SPSI with name and telephone contact information or leave a confidential voice message at (206) 328-5315 for more information.

When contacting the Referral Service, please provide:

  • Your name
  • Contact phone and/or email
  • Neighborhood/area that would be convenient to meet with someone
  • Your health insurance provider (if any)
  • Any special requests you might have for a therapist
