Parul Behl

I am Parul Behl. I am a second year doctoral student in the University of Washsington’s History Department. I would be working on early modern South Asia at the intersection of gender, sexuality, literature and religion. I look forward to being an Academic Associate at SPSI. I look forward to using psychoanalysis theories and methods for my project, thereby crumbling disciplinary boundaries. Prior to this, I have had degrees in History and Sociology from India. My hobbies include cooking, hiking and learning new languages.


Ellis Black

Hello all! I’m Ellis Black (they/them pronouns). I am a psychiatrist currently in private practice, doing primarily psychodynamic psychotherapy for adults and adolescents in the LGBTQIA+ community. I grew up in Issaquah and went to medical school at the University of Washington, followed by psychiatry residency at New York University and child fellowship at UW/Seattle Children’s. I speak Spanish, and up until last year co-directed the CALMA Clinic, a bilingual child & adolescent psychiatry clinic that a colleague and I co-founded in 2020. Outside of work, I enjoy seeing local drag shows and making pottery on the wheel.


Beth Bloom

My name is Beth and I’m a Psychologist in private practice in Portland, OR. Originally from Wisconsin, I completed most of my education and training in Chicago and New York. After living and working in Manhattan for almost a decade, I moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2019 with my husband Jeff, cat Chloe, and dog Luna. We now have two young boys, aged 2 and 4, and enjoy all that this region has to offer. In whatever free time I manage to find, I love running, Bikram yoga, live music, house projects, and spending time with friends. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone, and I am excited to complete my psychoanalytic training here at SPSI.


Melissa Bota

Hello, my name is Melissa Bota and I am a psychiatrist based in Vancouver, Canada. Since graduating in 2020, I have divided my work time between a private practice doing group and individual psychotherapy, and at a community mental health team, working with youth with severe mental illness. My free time is spent exploring the amazing West Coast mountains and playing with my wonderful five year old daughter. I am looking forward to joining the SPSI community.


Lingyan Chen

Hi, I’m Lingyan (pronounced “Ling-yen”). I grew up in China and now live on Mercer Island with my husband, 15-year-old daughter, and two cats. With over ten years of experience as a psychotherapist in China, I started my private practice in Bellevue last year after earning my master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. I work with couples and individuals, and in my free time, I love walking, skiing, and meditating. I’m excited to connect with the SPSI community.


Sarah Connell

Hello! I’m a recent graduate of the University of Washington Psychiatry (previous: Pediatrics) Residency Program. I received my BA in English at Wesleyan University and MD at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. I’ll be working at the UW outpatient psychiatry clinic this fall. Previously, I’ve worked both inpatient and outpatient as a pediatrician. In my spare time, I enjoy being with family and friends. I love to camp, travel, read, run, listen to music, and dance. I look forward to meeting everyone.


Hai-Uyen Nguyen

Hi everyone! I am a fourth year psychiatry resident at the University of Washington. I completed medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and received a B.A. in psychology at Rice University. As a native Texan, I have loved spending time hiking to the best alpine lakes in the Pacific Northwest. I also enjoy teaching group fitness and searching for the best Sichuan food in the area!


Katherine Palm-Cruz

I am an adult psychiatrist working at the UW where my time is split between teaching and clinical care in the areas of perinatal psychiatry, primary care consultation and psychotherapy/medication management. In my free time I enjoy exploring the outdoors, traveling with my husband and three children and volunteering as a marine field naturalist through the Seattle Aquarium.


Tony Pasik

Tony is currently working and training as a psychiatry resident at the University of Washington. They practice outpatient medication management and psychotherapy as well as inpatient psychiatric treatment. They are also resident lead of the Antiracism Committee and involved in research regarding novel psychedelic treatment therapies. Tony’s interests include LGBT+ cultural and social movements, social justice, bioethics, artificial intelligence, and philosophy. They are an art and media enthusiast, with particular interest in queer and marginalized artists and creators. Their hobbies include music curation, dance, event planning, SCUBA, home improvement, and watching horror films.
