Letter to the SPSI Community

Psychoanalysis aims to free us from constraints imposed by our unconscious mind and enlarge our freedoms to choose. For the first time in more than 150 years, the Supreme Court of the United States nullified rights and freedoms for people living in 30 states. SPSI deplores the limitations on the rights of women and people who can become pregnant as well as the imposition of Federal and State governments on healthcare and privacy. We urge our members and the community to aid people in distress as the result of the overturning of the Roe v. Wade precedent.

SPSI affirms its conviction that abortion is health care.  We stand with the people who will suffer the most from the Court’s unconstitutional disruption of the right to privacy, bodily autonomy, and equal protection under the law. We know from our work and ongoing research that these will be people who already experience disproportionate lethality in maternal health care—people of color, people with limited financial resources, and rural populations.

SPSI encourages our community and leaders to help build the broadest possible coalition to restore all of the rights of American citizens nullified by this Supreme Court. We continue to protect and preserve our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Turn fear, anger, and despondency into action. Join and support community organizations that seek to restore rights to the people. Hold elected officials accountable for their actions or inactions. Vote.
