SPSI offers training for Child Psychoanalysis through the Western Regional Consortium. The Consortium includes other APsaA Affiliated/Approved Child Training Programs through San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, and Seattle.
Course are held Tuesday mornings, 9-11 AM, Pacific Time.

Current Candidates
Any current SPSI candidate may apply for Child Psychoanalytic Training. The application process opens in the Spring to begin training in September. Similar to adult training, there is didactic training in Theory, Process, Development, and Case Conference. If you are a current candidate, please submit:
- A Case write up of a child or adolescent case (5-6 pages).
- Graduate and/or post graduate courses you have taken in child development, child psychopathology, and child treatment.
- A history of your work experience and psychotherapy experience with children and adolescents and their parents/caregivers.
New Candidates
Applicants may also apply during the usual admissions cycle for adult training, which is in alternating years, with the next cohort being admitted in September 2026. To apply, please see the Adult Psychoanalytic Training Admissions Form. In addition to the stated requirements for application, please add:
- A Case write up of a child or adolescent case (5-6 pages).
